Family Estate

Our ACTIVITY

Superintensive olive grove. Designed to optimize water and energy use, ensuring efficient, sustainable, and high-quality harvests.

Traditional olive grove. Regenerative methods like sheep grazing and organic fertilization promote soil health and ecosystem balance.

Extensive Livestock Farming. We have extensive cattle and sheep farming: sheep and calves grazing freely in the pastureland, without being housed in barns. The sheep also help keep the centuries-old olive groves clean: they clear by hand what we would otherwise have to mow by machine. It’s a slow but consistent method, in keeping with how the land has always been worked in this part of Extremadura.

"Where land and time converge."

A land of heritage

OUR ENVIRONMENT

The La Encomendiña estate is more than just where the olive oil is produced. It’s a mix of young and ancient olive groves, sheep that graze the land, cattle grazing on pasture, and an agricultural testing area where we try out native varieties. Here, every decision we make in the olive grove also affects the livestock, the soil, and the water. That’s why we try not to separate the elements.

Located in Olivenza, Extremadura—a region rich in history and tradition—La Encomendiña thrives in a unique borderland with deep Hispano-Portuguese roots. Designated one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain, Olivenza’s culture, architecture, and landscape inspire every bottle we produce.

This is where our roots grow, and this is where the unique flavor of our oil is born.

Sustainability & Innovation

At La Encomendiña, sustainability guides our every step. From precision drip irrigation and climate sensors to photovoltaic energy systems, we continuously reduce our environmental footprint while maximizing agricultural efficiency.

The goal is to reduce water consumption and adapt irrigation to actual conditions, maximizing efficiency in every drop. Water efficiency and the intelligent use of water at each stage of the crop is one of the pillars of our strategy. At La Encomendiña we implement:

  • High precision drip irrigation. A system that delivers water directly to the roots, minimizing evaporation and runoff losses and ensuring constant and controlled hydration.
  • Climate and humidity sensors. We use sensors in the soil and weather forecasting tools to automatically adjust irrigation cycles. This allows us to save water without affecting the health of the plants.
A clean and self-sufficient model

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Our commitment to energy efficiency is another pillar of our production process. Each step brings us closer to a cleaner, more self-sufficient and environmentally friendly agricultural model. At La Encomendiña n e rely on photovoltaic technology to power our operations.

In addition, we promote the use of battery-powered hand-held electric machinery, efficient air conditioning through aerothermal energy and the optimization of processes that reduce the overall energy consumption of our operation.

With all this we achieve:

Leading Regenerative Agriculture

WE ARE PIONEERS

At La Encomendiña we are in a constant process of research and implementation of innovative solutions. We are currently working on the installation of photovoltaic solar panels on intensive crops, a revolutionary technique known as agrivoltaica that combines agricultural production with solar energy generation.

This pilot project positions us as a reference in regenerative agriculture and solar technology applied to the field. Why is it revolutionary?

Extremadura, cradle of the olive grove

A MILLENARY HISTORY

In Extremadura, the olive grove represents much more than an agricultural activity. It is a way of life that is passed down from generation to generation. At La Encomendiña we continue this legacy by combining ancestral wisdom with the most modern techniques to offer an oil with its own identity, proud of its origin.

Extremadura has a millenary history linked to olive growing. A link that goes back centuries, with evidence of its presence in the region since Roman times. During the Arab domination of the Iberian Peninsula, olive oil production was consolidated and expanded significantly.

After the Reconquest, these lands saw the flourishing of a unique olive growing culture, with new varieties, new flavors and new methods that have been perfected over the centuries.
